Project Concept
While the Kirby Speedrun community has fostered international interaction—such as through relay races between Japan and overseas—these events remain limited. Aside from K-STAR, which is held once a year, there are few regular opportunities for such cross-border communication.
This project was created with the idea that we could and should have more chances to connect and engage across the community.
Project Objectives
-Build stronger connections between the Japanese and international Kirby RTA communities.
-Bring in new runners to the Kirby Speedrun scene.
-Try out a team-based league format—a first for this community—and hopefully make it a regular thing.
→ This round is a trial run to see if the rules and structure work well.
Date & Staff
Event Period: Starting from October 2025 (Each team will coordinate and decide their match dates individually.)

Project Overview
Basic Rules
-The event is structured as a league tournament with teams of three players.
-Each league consists of 4 teams (tentative).
-Each match includes 3 games (matches).
-Games are selected from a pool of titles, based on self-nomination, external recommendation, or at random by the staff.
-The team that wins the majority of the 3 games wins the match and earns league points (draws are possible).
-Each player can participate in up to 2 of the 3 games per match.
-The top 1 or 2 teams by points will advance to the finals or final league stage (format may change depending on the total number of teams).
-After the season ends, individual points will be awarded based on team performance, and section records and point rankings will be published on the Kirby Speedrun Wiki.
--Note: Since this is a trial run, the point rankings may or may not be published this time.
-The goal is to make this a regular event, eventually establishing an annual ranking system based on seasonal results.
About Game Structure
-During the preliminary league, matches will be based on specific sections of the games rather than full-game runs.
-In the finals, full-game runs are expected.
Game Selection and Format
-The event will feature multiple Kirby titles, each split into various segments.
--Each team will assign members to cover specific segments and train accordingly.
--Each runner is expected to focus on 1–2 games or segments.
Progressive Segment System
-Each match will progressively expand the playable segments:
Match 1: early-game segments only
Match 2: up to mid-game segments
Match 3: up to late-game segments
This is designed to gradually prepare players for full runs by the finals.
Scheduling
The period between team assignments and the actual matches will be as long as possible to allow for ample practice time.

How Sections Are Chosen
-For each match, three sections (segments) will be played.
-These sections will be selected from a pool of predefined game segments.
-The method of selection will follow this rotation:
Self-nomination – Each team nominates one section they'd like to play.
Opponent's choice – Each team selects a section for the opposing team to play.
Random selection – One section is randomly chosen by the staff.

If the self-selection and opponent’s selection overlap, then two sections will be chosen randomly.
Team Selection Method
Number of Participants:
12 from Japan (first-come, first-served) + 12 from overseas (planned)
Team Assignment:
Teams will be formed based primarily on participants’ rankings in the KirbySpeedrunningPR (Power Rankings).
(This ranking will serve as a baseline, but adjustments may be made to balance teams between beginners and experienced runners.)
What is KirbySpeedrunningPR (Power Rankings)?
A ranking system that quantifies RTA performance across all Kirby series games for each runner and compiles a leaderboard.
Runners who have many records close to world records in popular categories earn higher scores.
For more details, please refer to the Kirby Speedrun Wiki.
Additional Notes:
You do not need to have completed any Kirby game RTA before applying. New runners are very welcome!
Achievements in Kirby games outside of the main challenges will also be considered in team assignments.
The rankings are calculated based on data registered on Speedrun.com.
In short
-A 3v3 team league battle featuring 5 Kirby games: Kirby’s Dream Land, Kirby’s Adventure, Kirby’s Dream Land 2, Kirby Super Star, and Kirby 64.
-Teams decide who plays which game internally. For each match, the three games played are:
One chosen by the team itself
One chosen by the opposing team
One chosen by the organizers
(If the first two picks overlap, the organizer’s choice counts twice.)
-The preliminary league matches focus on specific segments, not full runs — making practice easier!
-Teams are formed based on how much each player has played across all Kirby series games.
(It’s totally fine if you haven’t played anything recently — we’d love for this event to help you pick up new games to run!)
